Beautifully fringed, light blue to violet blue flowers are held atop leafless stems. Lance-shaped green leaves with white midveins. Maroon fall color. Blooms early to midsummer; may rebloom if deadheaded. Readily self-sows.
Plants prefer full sun and moist to wet, but well-drained soil. Established plants tolerate poor, dry soil. A southeastern native typically found in bottomlands, ditches and other damp areas.
