A member of the lily family this native closely resembles Solomon's Seal with its attractive stems of ovate leaves that arise directly from the ground. Fragrant, starry, ivory blooms appear at the ends of the stems and are followed by showy red or purple berries.
Prefers light to partial shade, but will tolerate sun if given sufficient moisture. Moist, well-drained soils are best, but it will tolerate drier soils. Plants spread by rhizomes, but are not invasive.
