Leathery, round, deep green, opposite leaves line stems that hug the ground. Pairs of tiny, four-petaled white flowers in summer are followed by a single red berry in fall. A slow-growing groundcover, it will tolerate deep shade. Plants prefer not to be disturbed. NATIVE.
Prefers part sun to full shade and moist, humus-rich soil, but will tolerate short periods of drought if given rich soil. Used by birds and other wildlife.
