Large 9" showy flowers in a mixture of red, white, or pink, many with red eyes. Dwarf plants. Native. Very slow to break dormancy in spring. Attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Deer resistant.
Prefers sun to light shade and moist, acidic soils. Although it is happiest in wet soils, it will tolerate ordinary garden soil. Tolerant of clay soil.
