Blooms April to June with profuse showy small flowers in loose clusters. Pale violet petals on a yellow center, resembling an aster, but has more numerous and florets are more narrow. Green leaves and stems are hairy. After blooming, the flowering stalks will die, but the leaves will remain green. The plant is considered a semi-evergreen to evergreen. Native.
Likes dry to medium, well-draining soils. Prefers rocky and sandy soil over soils with too much organic matter. Tolerates light shade in warmer climates. Zones 3-8.
