Spreading, rhizomatous, flowerless plants have jointed green stems with a black fringe of scale-like leaves at the joints. Very invasive, grow only in containers to prevent rampant spread. Deer resistant. Suitable for shallow water and raingardens. Native.
Prefers full sun to part shade and cool moist to wet soil. Can tolerate standing water up to 4' and heavy, clay soil.
