Bold plants have brilliant red, tubular flowers in midsummer on slightly arching, sparsely branched 3-foot-tall stems. Its mid-green leaves are pleated and sword like. The bulbs multiply by setting new bulbs atop the old.
Prefers full sun to light shade and moist, well-drained soil. Spider mites love the foliage so keep a close eye on them in the heat of summer. Old stems may be cut to the ground in fall.
