Large, quilted, deep purple leaves with purple flower spikes. Often used as a groundcover, bugleweed is happy in conditions ranging from drought to bogs. Attractive to butterflies.
Prefers light shade to partial shade with protection from afternoon sun. Happy in moist, well-drained soils, but will tolerate dry to wet once establlished. Can also tolerate clay soil. Can be grown under black walnut trees.
