Attractive burgundy winter foliage changes to green flushed with red in summer. Evergreen. Spikes of white tubular flowers. 1996 PPA "Plant of the Year". Native. Attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Deer resistant. One of the most garden worthy for the mid-Atlantic region.
Prefers well-drained gritty or sandy soil. Keep moist until established. Tolerant of drought and coastal conditions.
