Light green fronds on wide-spreading rhizomes form a nice groundcover in moist, lightly shaded gardens.
Prefers light shade to sun and plenty of moisture and can even grow in boggy sites. Happy in sandy, acidic soils, but adapts to others. Will tolerate shadier sites.

Unlike most ferns, this one prefers sun, but needs moist to wet soil to look its best. Cut back old fronds in the early spring before new fiddleheads (uncurled fronds) emerge.
